Paintings
Painting is a passion I followed primarily for the purpose of gifts. I always felt like the joy someone got from a painting I created far exceeded any pride I ever felt for it. My normal practice was to work from a photograph and then sulk in the disappointment of not looking exactly like the photograph- I did not invent this approach.
In 2015 I began teaching paint courses which opened me up to a new set of skills, but after 3 years I found myself creatively drained. I was the top host for kids birthday parties and let me tell you, there IS such a thing as too many unicorns.
At this time I was living around Boston, MA and had the privilege to meet several artists that were creators for a living. By watching their love and approach to art, I felt a renewed passion for painting driven by the process instead of the result. That being said, I hope you enjoy the results as much as I enjoyed the process!
2020-Now
Part of what helped me explore into the abstract was re-using old canvasses. From my Paint Class days, I would practice before each session. Instead of wasting a fresh canvas for something that no one would want to keep, I would use a canvas that had been painted over with white. The fun part about these re-painted canvases was the texture left behind from the previous images painted on them.
Can you tell which canvases were fresh and which ones were re-painted?
